The New York Mets have officially confirmed that Jeff Albert, Danny Barnes, and Kevin Mahoney will not be part of the Major League coaching staff in 2027. This decision comes as Andy Green prepares for his first full season as manager. The announcement was made in an official team release on October 7, 2026, and marks a notable adjustment to the coaching lineup without a wholesale overhaul. All other coaches currently on staff will remain with the team in the upcoming season.

Albert's departure ends a brief tenure on the Mets' big league staff after just one year in the role, though he had spent three years within the organization prior to his promotion. His exit reflects the team's desire for a new hitting perspective under Green, despite the presence of two other hitting coaches, Troy Snitker and Rafael Fernandez, who continue with the club. Notably, Albert had previous experience as the Cardinals’ top hitting coach before joining the Mets.

Danny Barnes, who has contributed to the Mets in various capacities over five years and worked under four different managers, will also not return. His responsibilities included overseeing Major League Spring Training, marking his absence as a shift in the team's preparatory and quality assurance operations. Similarly, Kevin Mahoney, serving as a batting practice pitcher for two seasons and bringing prior experience from the Yankees organization, will depart from the Major League staff as well.

Despite these changes, the Mets retain a core group of coaches who joined the staff in 2026, including bench coach Kai Correa, pitching coach Justin Willard, assistant pitching coach Dan McKinney, and position coaches Gilbert Gomez and Tim Leiper. Long-tenured members like Rafael Fernandez, bullpen coach Jose Rosado, and catching instructor J.P. Arencibia will also continue. This selective adjustment suggests a strategic refinement rather than a broad restructuring of the coaching framework.

The front office, led by president of baseball operations David Stearns, collaborated with Green to finalize these staffing decisions in the days following the season's end. While Albert, Barnes, and Mahoney remain with the organization and are free to explore opportunities elsewhere, the Mets have indicated plans to interview multiple hitting instructors to potentially fill the void left by Albert. How these personnel moves will influence the team’s on-field performance remains to be seen as the 2027 season approaches.
