Tampa Bay stayed alive with one last inning

The Rays did not need a crooked number to change their night. They needed one clean sequence in the bottom of the 12th, and Ben Williamson supplied it with a walk-off single that gave Tampa Bay a 4-3 win over Milwaukee in World Series Game 4 on Oct. 27 at Tropicana Field. MLB

The swing mattered because Milwaukee had just taken the lead. Cooper Pratt opened the top of the 12th with a solo homer to put the Brewers ahead 3-2, after David Hamilton’s fifth-inning homer had already pulled them even earlier in the game. Tampa Bay answered immediately in the bottom half, tying it on Jonny DeLuca’s single before Williamson finished the rally with one more hit to right. BALLDONTLIE MLB

The Brewers’ lead did not hold

Milwaukee had chances to finish the job, but a defensive mistake helped reopen the inning for Tampa Bay. After the Pratt homer, the Rays put the ball in play, forced the Brewers into a messy sequence, and then stacked enough contact to flip the score before the inning ended. MLB

The Rays also got length from their bullpen. Griffin Jax worked 12 outs, Nick Martinez recorded six outs without allowing a run, and Bryan Baker handled six more scoreless outs, giving Tampa Bay enough pitching to outlast the extra innings. BALLDONTLIE

Game 5 is scheduled for Wednesday night at 8 ET/7 CT on FOX, FOX Deportes and FOX One, with the Rays still having a chance to extend the World Series further. MLB
